Yaftna is the most exuberant piece in our current selection of Moroccan rugs — a 187x307 cm (6'1"x10' ft) hand-knotted rug in which an ivory ground is scattered edge to edge with dense, confetti-like flecks of turquoise, orange, pink, red and blue. Rather than organising colour into large fields or isolated motifs, Yaftna's weaver worked with a scattered, all-over technique — small bursts of colour knotted throughout the pile, the way confetti might settle across a floor. Set within this dense field are a handful of more structured motifs: a black-outlined diamond in the upper section, a zigzag chevron pattern, a small X-shaped figure, and, running through the middle of the rug, a bold checkerboard band in saturated multicolour squares that briefly organises the composition before it dissolves again into looser, busier patchwork toward the base.
