Die Gründer von OunizZ, Sonia und Oussama, teilen eine tiefe Liebe zur Schönheit und Natur, die beide in Marokko reichlich vorhanden sind. Von schneebedeckten Bergen und unberührten Wüsten bis hin zu unberührten Stränden und vergänglichen Feuchtgebieten – OunizZ hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die verborgenen Schätze des Landes durch außergewöhnlich gefertigte marokkanische Teppiche, Beni Ourain-Teppiche und Boujaad-Teppiche zu teilen.
Sonia arbeitete im Gastgewerbe, als die Pandemie die Welt erfasste. Die Tausenden von Reisenden, die jedes Jahr nach Marokko reisten, waren nicht in der Lage, die einzigartigen handgefertigten Artikel zu kaufen, die die lokale Wirtschaft bereicherten, während die Weber (einige von ihnen Sonias Familienmitglieder) ihre Textilien und Lebensmittel nicht verkaufen konnten ihre Tische.
Als Sonia ihren Job im Gastgewerbe verlor, wurde ihr klar, dass sie Hunderten von Frauen helfen und ihnen finanzielle Unabhängigkeit und die Fähigkeit zurückgeben konnte, das Handwerk auszuüben, das sie über Jahrzehnte verfeinert hatten. Sie und ihr Mann Oussama gründeten OunizZ mit der Vision, die Branche zu verändern und marokkanische Teppiche in die Welt zu exportieren. Innerhalb eines Jahres entwickelte sich das Unternehmen zum größten Teppichexporteur des Landes.

Während die Nachfrage nach marokkanischen Teppichen in den letzten Jahrzehnten gestiegen ist, ist die Kunstform bedroht. Dies liegt daran, dass die überwiegende Mehrheit der Unternehmen, die marokkanische Teppiche online verkaufen, nicht die Hersteller sind, sondern Zwischenhändler, die Teppiche zu niedrigen Preisen kaufen.
